ISLAMABAD: In a show of bravery and heroism, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Zamarud Khan put his life at stake to force an armed man to surrender before law enforcers on Jinnah Avenue here Thursday night.
Khan engaged the armed man, Malik Sikander, in negotiation and then tried to overpower him but the latter slipped out of his hands. Police and other law enforcers present on the occasion opened aerial fire which scared the culprit and he ran towards the pavement, stumbled and fell on the ground. The law enforcers came running and arrested the man in injured condition.
This put an end to the armed standoff, which started in the evening in the capital city and continued for several hours.
Speaking to Geo News, Zamarud Khan said he watched the situation as it unfolded on TV and felt bad as to how a single man could almost bring the capital city of Islamabad to a standstill.
“Even if I had to sacrifice my life (for the country) it would have been a thing of pride for me,” said Khan.
Malik Sikander’s wife also sustained injuries in the action. However, the children remained unhurt.
Two policemen including DSP Arif Hussian suffered minor injuries by the shots fired by the perpetrator.
