Mithi (Dec 7): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the future of Pakistan particularly in energy sector lies with Thar coal. “If we exploit Thar coal to generate coal -based energy Pakistan can become self-sufficient in power generation and can export its electricity.”
This he said while talking to media at Mithi hospital just after visiting open pit coal mining by Sindh-Engro Coal Mining Company at Islamkot.
He said that PPP government right from Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to his government has worked Day and night to start coal mining and instal coal-fired power plant. “If was dream and vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto that she explored the avenue to exploit Thar coal and make this country self-sufficient in energy,” he said and added “but some people played irresponsible role and the entire project which had attracted international investment was rolled back.”
He said again PPP government under the leadership of Asif Zardari focused on Thar and started developing its infrastructure and agreed the runaway intensities to return. “I have seen with my own eyes hat work on open pit mining is going on with good speed. Two Coal-based power plants are being installed, “he said and added” this is a great achievement of PPP government but I would say it is the achievement of people of Thar, people of Sindh and people of Pakistan,” he went on saying.
Replying to a question, Syed Murad Ali Shah said that about 40 meter over burden has been removed for open pit mining and 120 is yet to be removed. “We are very close to materialise the dream of Roshan Pakistan of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
The chief minister said that the Sindh- engro company was constructing a village of 160 houses for the villagers displaced due mining work.
Replying to a question, Syed Murad Shah said that he was working to redress the grievances of the villagers who are facing the problem of receiving mining water. “I know the depression near some villages has turned into a reservoir of the water oozing out from coal mines. I would not let them struggle alone but I am with them, “he assured.
He said that he had visited under construction Islamkot airport. “Work on this project was delayed due to some litigation but again it has been started,” he said and added it air strip is almost ready and work was in progress there.
The chief minister said that he had also visited RO Plant installed by Sindh-Engro and it would cater to the needs of considerable area of Islamkot and adjoining areas.
The chief minister talking about the facilities available at Mithi hospital, he said it has become one of the good hospitals working in the province. “The doctors of Mithi hospital have demanded a dalasis machine for which I have given instructions to health minister Dr Sikandar Mendhro who is accompanied with me,” he said.
He visited each and every ward of the hospital and inquired about the health of patients admitted there. The chief minister checked patients admission register and expressed his displeasure on its improper maintenance. “You are not maintaining the record if the patients- this must be done, otherwise face the music,” he lambasted a doctor on duty.
The chief minister on the complaint of a patient directed the MS to recommend termination of doctors who fail to turn up on duty.
The chief minister got down from his vehicle near Kashmir chowk and expressed his displeasure to sea incomplete development work of laying water supply lines. ” I have been happy if the ongoing uplift work would have been in progress but it has been stopped and casing problems for people,” he asked the DC Mithi and directed him to get it started.
