KARACHI, September 23: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that peasants and farmers are the backbone of our country and any injustice to them would be vehemently resisted by his Party and its workers everywhere in the country.
PPP Chairman was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI), which called on him at Bilawal House today. The delegation comprised of its President Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, General Secretary Mian Umair Masood, Chaudhry Rizwan Iqbal, Nawab Zubair Talpur, Captain Mohammad Hussain, Shaukat Wattoo, Mian Farooq Ahmed, Javed Riar, Mir Zafarullah Talpur, Abdul Karim Durd, Mir Sobdar Talpur and Hashim Mandharo.
President PPP ladies wing MNA Faryal Talpur, Sindh Minister for Food Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Information Mola Bux Chandio, Rashid Rabbani and Political Secretary to Chairman PPP Jameel Soomro was also present on the occasion.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PPP always stands by the working classes including peasants and farmers. Every effort will be made to safeguard their interests and protect them against any exploitation or victimization.
The delegation of PKI apprised the PPP Chairman about the problems being faced by them including the farcical Kissan Package of PML-N government and atrocities against. They also informed the Chairman that PKI has announced to take out “Janaza of Agriculture” in Lahore on September 28 and requested him to ask the PPP leaders and workers to join. The further said that the decision was taken as all the previous protests of farmers went unheard by PML-N government and all its policies are anti-farmers, which have led agriculture sector into comma.
PPP Chairman was also informed that agriculture products are being imported from India under the very nose of PML-N government destroying the local agri produces to an unbearable extent. PKI delegation said that India was providing subsidy in agriculture inputs and free electricity.
PKI office-bearers pointed out that Rs200 billion are being wasted on Orange Train to facilitate a few thousand people but the funds could have been enough for subsidies to boost the agriculture sector, while the government could have collected the same amount in the form of different taxes.
Bilawal Bhutto assured the delegation that PPP would never leave them alone and would continue to raise voice against all kinds of injustices and atrocities by the government against farmers community. He said that right from the tenure of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohatrma Benazir Bhutto and later on in the last PPP government, interests of the farmers were given high priority and the same policies would be upheld every time.
