​CM Sindh urges local bodies to show performance, be his team

KARACHI (Aug 8): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that people of Karachi have suffered a lot, come time at the hands of target killers and sometimes at the hands of terrorists and now when law and order has been restored the lifting of garbage has become a big challenge. “The Karachiites, including myself are annoyed so much.”
This he said while presiding over a meeting at New Sindh Secretariat today at 8am in the morning. The meeting was attended by Minister Local government Jam Khan Shoro, Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) M. Waseem, Principal Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Memon,  Administrator KMC Laiq Ahmed, Secretary Information Aijaz Memon, all DCs and administrators of DMCs.

He said that his government was being criticized for the garbage accumulated here and there. “This is very serious situation and the complaints and protests of the people are manifestations of their annoyance,” he said and added that this the time to give them relief.

The deputy commissioners and DMC administrators said that they were facing shortage of sweepers. Therefore front line sweeping and lifting of garbage could not be made properly. “I know you have Muslim sweepers, just you [DMC administrators] go and ask them to return to work, those who fail remove them,” he said and directed them to wear uniforms to the sweepers. The chief minister allowed the administrators to appoint sweepers on daily wages basis.

The meeting was told the DHA was dumping garbage in Malir and at Qayoomabad. On this the chief minister urged the commissioner to talk to the DHA administrator and get this matter solved. “I am also fade up with the complaints of encroachment by pathara and such other make-shift type of establishments,” he said and directed the KMC and DMCs to get anti-encroachment police from the BoR and get them removed.

The chief minister directed the DMCs to removed garbage from important roads such as I.I Chundrigar Road, Mai Kolachi, Expressway, Korangi Road, Abul Hassan Isphahani road- right from Safari Park, University road, Shahrah-i-Faisal, main roads of District Central and such others. “The garbage, debris lying there must be lifted and the plants be planted along the roads,” he directed.

It was pointed out in that the garbage lifted from front-line is duped at play grounds and parks. The chief minister said that the turning of parks and play grounds into Garbage Transfer Station (GTS) is unacceptable at any cost. There should be designated GTS and name boards be installed there for public knowledge.

The chief minister directed all the DMCs, KMC and deputy commissioners to furnish a inventory of their refuse vehicles and machinery in the office of his principal secretary. “You inventory must have columns of the vehicle/machinery on road, off road and  requirement, so that action could be taken accordingly.

The chief minister was also informed that dustbins received so far  being placed along the roads and near the vacant grounds. A dustbin have  been placed near ACLC office near Governor Houses and at some other areas.

The chief minister said that he had been seeing presentations and briefings from last many year but now “I want results, you have to work hard. Your hard work is your biggest `sifarish’, otherwise I wont listen any recommendation,” he  said categorically.
