KARACHI, March 02: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party has paid glowing tributes to PPP leader Shaheed Shahbaz Bhatti on his 5th martyrdom day anniversary being observed today.

In his message on the occasion, the PPP Chairman said Shaheed Shahbaz Bhatti was a brave leader of our Party who fought valiantly against the forces of darkness for protection of marginalized, underprivileged and oppressed Pakistanis. “His struggle for Jinnah’s Pakistan in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and under the guidance of my mother Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was indeed great inspiration for every Pakistani who dreams our country as an egalitarian and progressive state,” he stated.

PPP Chairman pointed out that like a true follower of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Shaheed Shahbaz Bhatti too laid down his life for the cause of democratic and equal rights for all Pakistanis without any caste, creed or religion discrimination.

As a Federal Minister in the last PPP government, Shahbaz Bhatti actively took part in pro-people and pro-democracy legislation to ensure adequate representation of the minorities in the Parliament. It was his initiative and the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari that PPP gave representation to the Non-Muslim communities in the Senate for the first time in country’s history.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistan Peoples Party was proud of the Party leaders like Shaheed Shahbaz Bhatti who laid down their lives for the protection of weak segments of our society.

While we pay glowing tributes to Shaheed Shahbaz Bhatti, PPP Chairman pledged to continue our struggle for achievement of the vision and mission left behind by founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah, first democratically-elected Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for an egalitarian Pakistan where every citizen has equal rights and protection without any discrimination.
