Chairman PPP stressed for an improved public-private partnership to provide better health facilities to the people

KARACHI, January 06: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party has stressed for an improved public-private partnership to provide better health facilities to the people, especially in the far-flung areas including Thar desert and mountainous terrain of Kohistan.
PPP Chairman was talking to a delegation of Childlife Foundation comprised of Iqbal Adamjee,Dr. Naseer u- din Mehmood and Dr. Ahsan Rabbani, which called on him at Bilawal House today. Vice President PPP-P Senator Sherry Rehman, Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar, Jameel Soomro and others also attended the meeting.
He said that Health and Education are top priorities of the PPP and its Provincial government has been asked by the Party to expand health facilities across the province so that every citizen has an easy access to better treatment in government hospitals. Public-Private Partnership in health sector is a good omen and he hoped that this partnership will advance government’s quest to ameliorate the conditions of patients.
Childlife Foundation, a local NGO, is managing the Pediatric Emergency Rooms at Civil Hospital, Karachi since 2011 and National Institute of Child Health (NICH) since 2013 under public-private partnership agreement with Sindh Health Department. According to the NGO, free treatment was provided to 900,000 children in Emergency Rooms since then with improved outcomes for survival (resuscitation survival outcome being at 90%).
The visiting delegation informed Chairman Bilawal Bhutto that they need additional space in NICH to treat the non-urgent children on fast-track basis and a similar public-private partnership agreement for establishment of Pediatric Emergency Room at Sindh Government Hospital, Korangi in Karachi.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari directed Sindh Health Minister to explore the ways for further cooperation between Health Department and NGOs for the betterment of patients in government hospitals.
