Karachi Dec 7: In order to enhance professional capacity building and Advance learning in Engineering Science, Technology Management of Sindh Irrigation Department a memorandum of understanding MoU has been signed in between the Management of Sindh Irrigation Department and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Bangkok here at CM House Karachi this evening. The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Senior Minister for Finance , Planning & Development and Irrigation Department Syed Murad Ali Shah and other senior officers of the Sindh Govt witnessed the MoU signing ceremony. The Secretary Sindh Irrigation Department Syed Zaheer Haider and Executive Director AIT Jonathan Shaw signed MoU on behalf of their organization. The MoU will provide a framework for delivering professional development of officers of Senior level, Mid-level management and junior professional for acquiring knowledge of facilities outside of Sindh. This Capacity building programme envisages on policy making decisions, executive leadership, training courses for one to four weeks to increase the professional abilities at senior and mid-level. Earlier to this the Training Need Assessment (TNA) was performed for the Sindh Irrigation Department after the visit of the AIT team in February 2015 on the basis of which a PC-1 was prepared as par MoU the Junior professional will undergo through the academic programs (Regular Masters, Professional Masters, and Certificate) that would enhance the knowledge of young professionals over the course of their careers. The main purpose of this MoU was to met with future challenges of Disaster Management and mitigation, especially floods and droughts, Social and environmental issues associated with water management , Integrated water resource management, Policy decision making for water management, Remote sensing and GIS in water resource management, Construction management and Project management. The Financial provision for this program is made through ADP 2015-16 with tentative cost of PRs. 150 million Besides, the Asian Institute of Technology will consider scholarships and other forms of financial aid for degree programs, economies of scale in preparation of professional development. The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah while talking on occasion said that Sindh being Agro based province needs more expertise in Agriculture and Irrigation to exploit its resources properly. He said that Agriculture sector was not only provides us food security but also was the source of vast income & employment opportunities and added that Sindh Govt to further develop this sector. He said that this MoU will be proved an instrimentary source for the skill development of provincial irrigation department. The Sindh Minister for Irrigation and Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah said that Sindh has biggest Irrigational network and Barrage system in the world. He said that the purpose of this MoU was to enhance the Capacity building of the Irrigation Department for efficient utilization of available Irrigation Water in normal course of life and to meet out with further Challenges of flood with success.
