Karachi. 22.10.2015: Pakistan people’s Party (PPP) Karachi Division President Syed Najmi Alam, General Secretary Nadeem Bhutto and Secretary Information Lateef Mughal have vehemently criticised the election commission for restricting independent observers of elections in Pakistan such as Free and Fair Elections Network (FAFEN) and human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) from monitoring the elections.
In a statement issued from PPP Media Cell Sindh, they said that the free and fair elections is right of the people and this right could not be suppressed. The FAFEN and HRCP like independent groups simply monitor the process of elections to see if the elections are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner. However, restricting FAFEN and HRCP from playing as observer would further raise questions on impartiality of the election commission as all leading political parties have already questioned the impartial role of the election commission?
They said the election commission should review its policy and should not obstruct the efforts for monitoring the elections by independent groups or else the PPP would have the right to protest against the election commission for its undemocratic policies.
